Bio

[°1976, B & CH ]   Pierre-Philippe Hofmann lives in Brussels and works in Brussels and Switzerland

Born in Brussels (1976), Pierre-Philippe Hofmann divides his time between his two countries, Belgium and Switzerland. This dual origin has really affected the way the artist develops his projects. Protocols and precision always play an important role in his research, but humour and surprises are always scattered throughout his projects.
It is mainly through photography that he develops his research. A disciple of Gilbert Fastenaekens, who was his teacher at Ecole de Recherche Graphique (Brussels) and then his publisher, he was marked by documentary photography, particularly sensitive to the legacies of Bernd & Hilla Becher, or by the New Topographs.

In Belgium, Pierre-Philippe Hofmann showed his project "Lieux Communs- Gemeenplaatsen" at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, at the CIVA and in Galerie Nadja Vilenne (Liège). This same project became a book and was awarded the Prix du Parlement de la Communauté Française in 2011.

Mainly active in Switzerland since 2012, his recent project "Portrait of a Landscape" (10 walks thourgh Switzerland, 2700km - 2700 videos) has been presented several times as solo exhibitions (Ferme Asile-Sion, S AM Basel, Kunstraum Kreuzlingen, Bruder Klaus Museum Sachseln). This huge video installation will be presented in Belgium next year (Biennale de l'Image Possible, Liège & De Singel, Antwerpen). A new monograph will be published in 2020.

His videos "Ad Libitum", made with actor Mathias Domahidy, are regularly presented. This was the case in September 2018, during the Vevey Images Festival.
